10 Ways to Improve Your Work Life Balance

Did you know that your health is directly related to the balance you have between work, rest, and a social life? If you can’t find enough time for each of these three areas in your daily routine, you can experience a poor work-life balance. Here are some tips to help you maintain your health.

1. Make Sleep a Priority

Studies have shown that sleep is incredibly important in the maintenance of health and work-life balance. Experts recommend at least seven hours of sleep per day, but no more than nine. To ensure an effective sleep cycle, go to sleep and wake up at the same time daily.

This relates to your body’s circadian rhythm. It helps you feel tired at night and sleep better. To keep your sleep cycle rhythm, try not to nap during the day, as this can disrupt your natural sleep pattern.

2. Eat Right for a Healthy Balance

Poor diet has been shown to have a negative impact on the body’s ability to maintain balance. Make sure you’re eating healthy, balanced meals instead of foods high in unhealthy fats and carbohydrates. It might seem like it helps with time management during the day, but it doesn’t since you’ll be tired and unfocused later in the evening.

Additionally, there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to rich desserts once in a while. But consuming too much sugar can cause lead to serious diseases, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. The keys to a healthy diet are balance and moderation.

3. Limit Your Social Media Time

With the advent of smartphones, social media has become a way of life for many people. While you can use social media to enhance your work-life balance, it’s also easy to get sucked into a Facebook or TikTok quagmire for hours at a time. To limit this problem, turn off push notifications and delete unnecessary apps from your phone. You’ll be able to enjoy time with friends or computer-free family time without the lure of social media.

4. Make Time for Yourself

It’s important to schedule some time for yourself every day, whether that’s reading a book or getting in some exercise. This can be especially important if you’re at work all day. When your mind is occupied with things other than your current task, you’ll be able to focus more effectively on the task at hand. It can also help to get away from your desk and take a short break.

5. Find Work Life Balance with a Hobby

Another reason to make time for yourself is to find a hobby away from paid work and other responsibilities. Many people spend their days at work or taking care of family obligations. While this is important, you should also take time every day to engage in activities you find personally fulfilling. By doing so, you’ll be able to reduce stress and maintain your health. It doesn’t have to be anything major—you can read, spend time with friends or family, or engage in an easy craft.

It’s okay to have “me time.” A hobby, walk, or even a short nap on a lazy Sunday afternoon can help with your work-life balance.

For something even more rewarding, learn something new. Have you always wanted to crochet but couldn’t find the time? Now’s the time to learn. With fall approaching, now’s a great time to start a new book series. You’re not a fan of reading? Try audiobooks. These are a great way to unwind and feel accomplished at the same time.

6. Limit Your Overall Screen Time

Your television can also be a major distraction that keeps you from having a work-life balance. If you’re frequently coming home after work only to plop down on the couch and watch TV, you need to limit your time with this source of entertainment. In the evening, try to engage in a relaxing activity instead of watching television. Going for a walk or reading a book are both good options. Even engaging in conversations with your family can be beneficial.

7. Exercise Regularly

Working out is an important part of any healthy lifestyle. Researchers have found that exercise improves mental health, emotional well-being, and the ability to find balance in life. You can also use it as a stress reliever in order to improve your work-life balance.

If you don’t like exercising in public places, take some time after work to exercise where you won’t be distracted. There are many benefits of regular exercise. It can improve your sleep, lower stress, and boost energy levels. Also, it can help you maintain a healthy weight which reduces the chances of obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. Remember to add a CBD topical to your routine to improve post-workout recovery.

8. Set Boundaries at Work

Work is important for many people. But it’s also important to remember that your personal life comes first. This means you need to set boundaries on the amount of time you’ll spend on work each day and the amount of stress you’ll take on. You can also help yourself by making sure you don’t sacrifice your health by eating poorly or not getting enough sleep.

Also, shut down your email at night. When you come home from work, you should be able to relax and focus only on the things of interest to you. This means that you need to turn off your email and put away your work phone. Otherwise, you’ll constantly be thinking of work-related issues and possibly even get text messages that will distract you from the things most important to you—your loved ones and well-being.

9. Set Strict Work Hours to Improve Balance

The average person spends nine hours a day working. If you can limit your workday to eight or nine hours, you’ll have more time for the other areas of your life. This is especially important if you have children because you should be spending quality time with them daily. Employees who are constantly overworked often become stressed out and unhappy, leading to poor work-life balance.
